Well, today rolled in to work roundabout 11:30. Left works roundabout 11:45. So for this entry today is really yesterday. Count a trip to Karl's Jr. for lunch and a second to Taqueria Los Charros for dinner. Got home and Grey cat walks right out the door. Presumptious little jerk. Still, I can't blame him. The weather is beautiful and he done been cooped up all day.
Earlier this weekend they were tromping around at night, waking me up, so as I tend to do I chase them around a while with the water bottle explaining that when they wake me up, cats get wet. Well, Stripey jumps up on my bedroom window sill, I lean over to grab him, and feel my hand go through the window. Stripey is sitting outside, looking up at me, a little bit stunned like he's suddenly fallen out the window in to an entirely different world. I let him be. Young, full of energy, and keeping me up? I let him and Grey cat in the next morning. (Grey followed his brother outside not long after.)
So, I don't like having them running about. So far they stay close to the house, but they don't have their outdoor vaccinations. I think that given that they do have a lot of energy and that I'm not around to entertain them much, is probably a good idea to let them run around and play. So, "Set up Stripey and Grey for the outdoors" is now on my todo list.
Today I gave up on FreeBSD's broken up sysinstall command, and wrote an install script that does stuff like grab a number out of disklabel to calculate disk geometry with bc, write the result to a temporary file, and then read them back in with disklabel to set up partition slices, then newfs and install distributions. Sure, you don't know what I'm talking about, but I found it kind of exciting to be assembling all this stuff because it is somewhat hard-core and clever. Now I can boot a system over the network and install a base system. Later this week I scheme out how to give the new system an identity. I already had the basics of this figured out as I walked home this evening.
