Heh, there isn't much I've wanted to ask for for Christmas. If I need anything of reasonable expense, I tend to take care of it, and if it's more expensive, I don't like to ask for it.. It was making me quite cynical for a while there, but well, after some half-hearted shopping with Uncle this weekend, and the snowfall we've gotten the past few days, I feel more in the Christmas Spirit.
It's been a busy month here at EnterAct. And while I know it's all for the best, I'm really not so set to leave. I keep thinking of more things I want to finish before it's too late, all the things I've got tied into my employee account that I'll need to disentangle, disseminate into the system, and document at least to the extent that somebody knows what's going on, or that it's painfully self-evident.
And it's been tough around here too. This month we've had two critical failures lasting more than half a day each. The first was our radius server going kaput around the seventeenth, and then the pop server thrashed it's hard drive into a piece of magnetic rubble last week. Exciting enough and intellectually stimulating, but it really sucks when critical services are down and Tech Support is starting to feel the stress of thousands of users calling up to complain all day long.
And wouldn't you know it, this current endeavour has been interrupted by a network uproar. Okay. Things are better now. I'm staying at work becase it's really cold back at the apartment. Today it's Winter, which seems appropriate given our preferences for a white Christmas and all.
So two weeks ago, I visited Urbana again, sleeping once again in the Ground South Triple, courtesy of Moshen's bed. I checked out two whole places. Right now my first choice is this really nice house out in Urbana, which I would be sharing with some Graduate students. They wanted to make sure that I was at least a little sociable and all, but they would prefer to rent the place our for the summer too.
Second choice is take Rachel's pad, as she moves back into Allen Hall. This would put me in with Sarah Ibis and Tom. I see four things going for Rachel's pad - it's close to Allen, it's subletting off a friend, covered parking is available for $30/month, and Krissy lives across the hall.
And if that doesn't work, it's a scramble. One possibility that would be cool is to move in with Larry Schroff, if he's still looking for a roommate at that point. I certainly don't want to pull a Morris though and end up living in my car for a few months. I mean, old Beetles aren't reknowned for their great heating systems you know.
I caught two dinners with Rachel. Saturday night we had Chinese with Tunji and Andrew. I was the only one to finish. Before leaving on Sunday we ate at the Cracker Barrel. I had a doggy bag for my cheeseburger. The car saw much action, transporting up to four people at a time first to Friday's dinner, and on Saturday to go see the new Star Trek movie, which was oozing with an impressive amount of slack. As with all things, it would have done a lot better if it had featured Jackie Chan.
On Friday prior, I had had a good day, because I found a place, Lucas'
Tires, to get the alignment done. I was quoted a few hours at $60/hour. When
I called up to retrieve the car, I was told the bill came to $50. A stroke of
luck. That afternoon, Sean and I rode down to the EnterAct party, which was
fun, and where Patrick divulged the secret of the Lamb's Head, as well as
Eric's secret, which will never be mentioned again, I hope. To quote Michael
-You're right dannyman, I really didn't want to know.
And the next morning I was off to Urbana for that weekend I described. It was all good, you know?
