Well, it's been nearly a whole month with no peeping on my part. It's hard to be interested in typing about your life when you are working at least eight hours a day typing already. We saw this last summer too.
I don't wanna let the peeps down though. So I'll share with you photos I got back the other day. Think of this as a special feature. :)
First, let's take a look at the old office.
Ayup. We've moved to the Old Colony building, across the street from the Harold Washington Library. We left behind a mess ... well, we weren't the only ones to leave behind a mess, but one thing that Blake, Eric and myself had spent some time doing was cleaning up our space at Printers Square, which included not only arranging, cleaning, and dragging out garbage, but tackling that rat's nest of cables you see there. Blake re-ran cables to the equipment, and I got to rip out that stuff you see going into the ceiling. Reminded me of working at NCSA. I remember one afternoon spent pulling some old fiber optic cables from our office building. It's kind of interesting wondering where a cable goes and why it had bothered going there in the first place. Desk work is a lot cushier though.
Of course, all work and no play makes someone dull. A few weekends ago I heard from Sean, one of my best friends from College. Sean left IIT and is now working at American Science and Surplus and studying at a culinary institute. He threw a dinner party for a bunch of folks, and I got to meet Karen again, who you see on the right in this picture. I also got to meet Ted - Karen and Ted are both from High School as well. Anyways, I didn't have much cash so I split a six-pack of some good Mexican beer, I think it was, with Ted, who has a sensitive liver and can't drink much right now ... and he only drank half a beer, leaving five beers for me, since nobody else was so adventurous and fond of Ted's choice in beer.
Karen drove me home. The party was neat, meeting some folks who also work at American Science and Surplus - a freaky place if ever there was such a thing ... Sean fed us some of his experimental stuff ... there was this chopped bean stuff, and peas, topped with, of all things, bacon-covered meatloaf. Now, I'm a bland kinda guy, adventurous anyway. I sampled, I enjoyed the hors d'ouvres, some of which had green spinachy stuff, but in the end I was really more interested in the weird stuff they had on tape, the company, and wondering how drunk and socially acceptable I was. Karen was sweet and gave me a ride home. I think that's a good thing considering I'm not sure my way out of Sean's neighborhood on the CTA, which I had ridden there on straight from work.
Part of the aim of Sean's
house, as he explained it, was that anywhere you look, you'll be in awe
... or words to that affect. Anyways, he had the disco ball, as you can see
... a weird audio tuner, and speakers ... and those murals, as you can see,
and a real-time model of the solar system ... at least, the inner planets, and
an AI bird with dirty electrical contacts in the kitchen ... it is an awesome
place, I admit. I guess that's a side effect of working for American Science
and Surplus!

Ahh ... the vagaries of work, the disinterest of writing too much.
Another thing I did in June, was visit Krissy before she was sent off to ROTC Advanced Camp. Cadet Kris Ying Chow is currently involved in being all that she can be, and I made a jot down to Champaign on Amtrak to see her off. I also got a neat picture of Maureens place. I'd have gotten a nice picture of Krissy too, as she'd taken the opportunity to buy a nice interesting skirt and a blouse too ... and there was this nice image of her standing before the house, but for some reason, I just aren't the kind to pose people for photographs. I did have a snap of her sleeping in the commons though;
That third picture is of Maureen's apartment, including Maureen. I took the snap because it seemed like a nice art shot ... you can see the kitchen seperated from the bedroom by a wall, and the nice lighting on Maureen contrasting with the refrigerator. Hopefully Maureen doesn't mind this shot, or I'll have to take it down.
