I-Guide, therefore I-Am!

Well, I'm home. Errr, I'm in Allen.

I was going to go scan some pictures today, but Lincoln Hall's network is down. Ahhh well, later on.

The drive down went well, especially after I figured out how the Cruise Control works. After getting everything moved, and a parking permit for the lots down by FAR, I also helped Brian take his monitor in for repair yesterday. It's broken see.

While out, we also dropped by Inspector's Gadgets and I picked up a pair of 32M EDO SIMMs for $110 a piece. Good price, and it's supporting a small guy. And I can run all sorts of nifty X apps without hearing scratching sounds.

I was enjoying yesterday's work. Bridget was worried like I hadn't eaten the crusty old Domino's pizza they'd ordered, but I was having fun. I took a break after knocking down a whole buncha cardboard boxes that one group had left in the hall. The guy who was following me was all annoyed as he started cleaning up peanuts. It's not I-Guide's job though to keep the halls clean, that cardboard in our way getting knocked over is the resident's concern.

Whatever, I appreciated the break. Bridget referred to me as a super I-Guide or something along those lines. I felt duly flattered, but I was just doing something I really like.

Later, driving Wang-man around, I was feeling awfully tired though.

McDonald's Sucks, Follett's Rules!

Yesterday I bought books. I was hungry for Arby's, but they were closed, so I figured Wendy's, but when I got up there the door was locked - they close at 8 as well. Augh, so McDonald's - that place sucks!

It was dirty, undersupplied, the food tastes like shit, as a given, though french fries are okay ... they had most of the resturant roped off as it had been cleaned and I guess they didn't want it munged up. What remained for customer use was grody!

Salt they keep behind the counter, to be doled out by an underpaid and underappreciated employee so as to save costs on people actually using salt as they might like.

While eating, I kept the same thought throughout the meal: Disgusting "corporate food" ... see, McDonald's is what you get when you maximise profit I guess at the expense of food quality, service, cleanliness, and the like. I wonder how much they spend on advertising relative to various restaurant expenses.

In contrast was Follett's book store next door. Newly renovated, with a huge video wall, a small cafe, (That's where I shoulda ate - Doh!) ... and swarms of employees, well up 'til their 11PM closing time! I bought what few books I could find needed for my classes, I guess a total of three, one of which was unavailable. I suspect those English courses will be taking more specialised materials, either a study packet, special books or just doing stuff as the semester progresses. ECE 291 had no book either. Huh.

I like Follett's as they seem to be running a very "nice" organisation - they like to give away free stuff, like candy or pop or yesterday I got a cup. They employ so many students it seems, who seem proud of their jobs and motivated to do what they do. The place has even a row a terminals set up for general internet access ... I can't help but feel that Follett's is really trying to serve, and isn't afraid to take a new approach to things.
