Technology Sucks

Augh, well the van still vibrates. I'm taking it back into Firestone tomorrow, the guy on the phone's like "oh the tires just need to be re-balanced" ... uh huh, yeah the guy at Fair Muffler thought I just needed new tires. I'm quite sure it shouldn't cost me anything.

While he was finishing work on it, the tech called me over, pointed at something on the front-end, a bar that looks like it has something to do with steering, and said something was strange about it. I don't know what it was he was saying, as his English was not very easy to understand, but I nodded and smiled, figuring if it was something important, a self-respecting automobile repair guy would want to replace it.

Anyways, so I took the CTA down by Grandma's work today ... she has the "QuickMail" email client from hell, and she hasn't even Ethernet - Phone Net! And no IP either - looks like a configuration oversight, as it used to work. Her MacTCP control panel lists 128.0.0.0 as her IP address - not even your standard localhost!

Ahhh poor Grandma. She also has Eudora 1.3.something, Netscape 1.0, and NCSA Mosaic in her Apple menu.

It's an LC III with 4M of RAM, and no Ethernet card.

And she's the secretary for the former University president!

Remind me not to transfer to University of Chicago!

So, couldn't get anything done, but I did break her email client, which seems to happen with regularity, she didn't seem upset. While taking me to dinner, I suggested that I could set her up with the A500. After all, it's more powerful, colorful, and can even run a web browser in 16 colors.

Tomorrow I'll be setting up two Amigas for Internet access, the A500 and the A1200 ... I hope I have enough modems. If not, I'll tell Uncle he should buy one. After all, he's getting the better computer, and he's likely going to be the heavier user anyways.
