Adam Haberlach
As of this writing, Adam is a fellow unemployed dot-commer, who I hang out with on occasion. He's been working at a climbing gym, and trying to get in to law school. Suckle from his newsnipple.com, will you?
Andrew Ho
I was first exposed to Andrew on UIUC's Usenet. He always struck me as a very smart, thoughtful character. So, later when we had both graduated and moved to California, and Tellme needed a backend web guru, I suggested Andrew. Well, turns out Andrew is da bomb, and they hired him, and he works at Tellme still.
Beth
I was driving around in my '72 Super Beetle one day, when a car full of young women starting screaming at me. I pulled in to the gas station, gave Beth my e-mail address, and we started dating. Well, turns out that just as she was ready to enter school, I was ready to leave for California. Beth's majoring in Photography, or something like that, and Roger Ebert went to her high school.
Brian Swetland
Me and Stripey live with Brian right now. He's a mild-mannered firmware engineer who knows a lot more about computers than most people who know a lot about computers know. He works for Danger, which are making this uber-device that should be out soon. Brian eschews TV, but he likes Junkyard Wars, and owns an awful lot of anime.
Dave Hayashida
Dave is originally from Hawaii. I met him at school in Illinois. I think he was majoring in photography, but working at the NCSA. He's a wonderful, fun guy who we don't hear from much. Taking time to sort himself out, I s'pose, in, of all places, Austin, TX.
David B Terrell
Dave and I ran with the same groups back in Illinois, but it wasn't until we found ourselves in California and living together that I got to know him better. Dave is a unique, absent-minded, good-hearted genius, and he is the first in our peer group to breed, with his sweet wife Rebecca, whom he met while we shared an apartment. Dave also has many pets, and bears the ultimate responsibility for the Internet services that this web site depends on.
Dawn Strahler
Dawn Strahler went to Harvey Mudd, along with a lot of other odd super-geniuses I have met out here. Dawn, however, is the most beautiful of the odd Harvey Mudd super-geniuses. She occasionally invites me to some party at her rippin' pad in Sunnyvale, so I can occasionally meet more odd Harvey Mudd super-geniuses.
Erik Gilling
Met Erik back at Allen, in Illinois. For a brief time we carpooled together between Alameda and Mountain View. We see each other on occasion, pretty much at parties. I've never gotten to know Erik too well, but he's a good guy, with this sort of creative bent. Stay tuned.
evb
I used to work with Eric at EnterAct, in Chicago. While he is a French-Canadian and posted modelling photos of himself to the web as a young man, I didn't know he was gay until he followed me out to Northern California and became flamingly "out." The magic of San Francisco ...
Fake Rachel
I don't actually know Fake Rachel, but one day I saw this cute gal who looked very generally like my friend Rachel, so I told her she was "Fake Rachel" and she has since adopted this name for her web site.
Michael Hessel
Mike's from Brooklyn. Since he's an Asian-Caucasian mix, he looks Latino. Mike and I used to work together at Tellme, two sides of the same coin - Unix admin, and NT admin. Mike's sense of humor is very strange, in ways different from mine.
Michael P
Michael was one of the very early employees at Tellme. He is fond of exotic cars, and Spain. We share a sense of humor, along with the occasional movie, and beer.
MikeyA
MikeyA lives over in the far-flung East Bay. He hosted my first stay in Northern California, and is thus responsible, in part, for my current location. A retired fellow, who seems to enjoy life, Mike has biked on his Harley through forty-nine of our fair states.
Moshen
One fine day, back in college, I wandered in to the Allen Hall computer lab and asked this Chinese kid what his name was. His name was suitably cool that I asked if he wanted to be my friend. We're still friends, having both moved to California.
Paul Schmidt
Paul is a very good-natured kind of guy who used to work at EnterAct. Now he works ... somewhere in the Bay Area. A young man, saddled with debt, overcoming the cruelty of Northern California with his nimble tech skills. Stay tuned, kids!
Sam Etler
Sam Etler grew up in Wisconsin, and has that charming accent that reminds me of summer camping trips back in the midwest. He works at Tellme, an easy-going telephone super-geek who collects 1960s-era Bell system manuals, knows many useful contacts within AT&T, and more bizarre acronyms than I would ever shake a stick at.
Skirv
Tim is unique. He grew up in Urbana, I know him from Allen Hall. His huge-ass web site is worth a visit, and despite his extremely weird, geeky nature, he acts as one of those social hubs, helping far-flung members of the various peer groups run in to each other once in a while.
Raché and DB Weber
I was roommates with DB one year in Allen Hall. DB and Raché are a pair of sweet, quirky people who have had the good fortune to fall in love, get married, and buy a big ol' house in suburban Champaign-Urbana. I enjoy any chance I can get to visit with them.
Yiling Liu
Yiling and I met through a mutual friend. Only blind date I've ever been on. Yiling is a soft-spoken woman from Taiwan, who appreciates the creative arts, and cooks good food.
