Scott’s Signature Series High Fructose Corn Syrup!
Recently noticed product at Andronico’s, hoity-toity supermarket for the monied class:
Scott’s Signature Series
Korean Style Barbecue SauceINGREDIENTS: High Fructose Corn Syrup, Purified Water, Soy Sauce (Water, Soy Protein, Salt) . . .
I like how every ingredient is Capitalized, that the principle ingredient is government-subsidized High Fructose Corn Syrup, and that it features both Purified Water and plain old non-purified Water.

Food labeling regulations are a pain. Believe me, I know. That bottle has water listed twice because they’re getting in soy sauce as an ingredient from some supplier. They could combine everything together in a single ingredient line, but then you get this:
water + purified water = water
Some marketing drone didn’t want that because it would dilute the “premium” nature of the sauce. Never mind that the HFCS isn’t exactly premium.
Oh, and by the way, the government subsidizes good old Sugar, too. US sugar prices are kept artifically high with tariffs and price supports to producers. Canadian sugar is about 1/3rd the cost of US sugar. A lot of candy companies have moved their production to Canada as a result.
